கொலையுண்ட ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா – ஒரு மஹான்
"ஒரிஸ்ஸா மாநிலத்தில் கந்தமால் என்கிற மாவட்டத்தில் ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதி என்கிற ஒரு ஸந்நியாசி ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 24ஆம் தேதி படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். அதற்குப் பிறகு ஏற்பட்ட கலவரத்தினால் சாதாரண மக்கள் பாதிக்கப்பட்டனர்'. இந்தச் செய்தி பெருமளவில் நாடு முழுவதும் – உலக அளவில் கூட – பிரசுரிக்கப்பட்டு, பிரச்சாரப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. "மறுபடியும் ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில் மைனாரிட்டி கிறிஸ்தவ மக்கள் கொடுமைப்படுத்தப்படுகிறார்கள்; சங்பரிவார்,
விச்வ ஹிந்து பரிஷத் ஆகிய இயக்கங்கள் கலவரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்' என்றெல்லாம் தலைப்புச் செய்திகள், பத்திரிகைகளின் முதல் பக்கங்களில் நாள் தவறாமல் வெளிவந்தன.
இதனால், பாவம் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்ட ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதி யார் என்றே தெரியாமல் போய்விட்டது. அவரைப் பற்றி ஓரிரு வார்த்தைகள் தவிர, மற்ற எந்த விவரத்தையும் பத்திரிகைகள் எழுதவில்லை. "அவர் வி.ஹெச்.பி. தலைவர்' என்று நம் நாட்டில் செய்தி பிரசுரமானபோது, "அவர் ஹிந்து தீவிரவாதி' என்று வெளிநாட்டில் பிரசுரமாகியது.
ஆனால், உண்மை என்ன? அவர் பெரிய ஆன்மிகவாதி. யாருமே அவரைப் பற்றி உண்மையை எழுதாததாலும், பேசாததாலும் வெளியுலகிற்கு எதுவும் தெரியவில்லை. முதலில் அவர் யார்? அவர் ஏன் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டார், அந்தக் கொலையைச் செய்தது உண்மையில் யார்? எப்படி அந்தக் கொலை பற்றிய உண்மையான செய்தி, திசை திருப்பப்பட்டிருக்கிறது என்பதைப் பார்க்கலாம்.
ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமி, ஸ்வாமி தயானந்த சரஸ்வதியுடன் சக மாணவராக இருந்து ரிஷிகேஷில் வேதம், உபநிஷதம், வேதாந்தம், பிரம்மசூத்ர பாஷ்யம் போன்ற அரிய பொக்கிஷமான ஆன்மிக நூல்களைப்
பயின்றவர். அவர் படித்து முடித்த பிறகு, 1965ல் நடந்த பசுவதைத் தடுப்புப் போராட்டத்தில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான ஸந்நியாசிகள் ஈடுபட்டபோது, அவரும் ஈடுபட்டு 19 நாட்கள் சிறைவாசம் பெற்றார். பசு பாதுகாப்பு இயக்கத்தை நடத்த 1967ஆம் ஆண்டு ஒரிஸ்ஸா சென்றார். 196870ஆம் ஆண்டு ஒரிஸ்ஸா கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவின் தலைநகரமான "புல்பளி'க்கு சென்றார்.
அவர் அங்கு சென்றபோது, அவரிடம் ஒரு சல்லிக்காசு கூட கிடையாது. பிச்சை எடுத்து உணவு உண்டார். கையேந்தி, செலவுக்கு ரூ.30 சேர்த்து, கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவில் சக்கபாத் என்கிற குக்கிராமத்திற்குச் சென்றார். "பகவான் பூரி ஜகன்னாதர் அருளால்தான் நான் அங்கு சென்றேன்' என்று கூறினார் அவர்.
ஏன் அவர் 1969ஆம் ஆண்டு அங்கு சென்றார் என்கிற கேள்விக்கு நாம் விடை கண்டால், அவருக்கு ஏன் இந்தக் கதி நேர்ந்தது என்பதற்கு துப்பும் கிடைத்துவிடும்.
கந்தமால் ஜில்லா, வனவாசிகள் நிறைந்த இடம். அந்தச் சமயத்தில் வெளிநாட்டுப் பண உதவியுடன் பெருமளவு மதமாற்றம் நடந்து வந்தது. பீஹார், மத்தியப் பிரதேச மாநிலங்களை ஒட்டிய வனவாசிகள் நிறைந்த ஒரிஸ்ஸா ஜில்லாக்களிலும் பெருமளவு மதமாற்றங்கள் நடந்து வந்தன. மத்தியப் பிரதேசத்தில், நீதிபதி நியோகி குழுவின் அறிக்கைப்படி, ஏமாற்றி, ஆசை காட்டி, பயமுறுத்தி மதமாற்றங்கள் செய்யப்படுகின்றன என்பது உறுதியானது. அதே கதைதான் ஒரிஸ்ஸாவிலும். அதனால்தான் மத்தியப் பிரதேசத்திலும், ஒரிஸ்ஸாவிலும் மதமாற்றத்தைத் தடுக்கச் சட்டங்கள் கொண்டுவரப்பட்டன.
இப்படி மதமாற்றம் நடப்பதைத் தடுக்கவே ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா, கந்தமாலில் உள்ள சக்கபாத் கிராமத்திற்குச் சென்றார். இந்தக் கிராமம், ஜில்லா தலைநகரான புல்பளியிலிருந்து 30 கி.மீ. தூரம். அன்றிலிருந்து அவர் கொலையுண்ட நாள் வரை சக்கபாத் கிராமமே அவர் கர்ம பூமியாகியது. அந்தக் குக்கிராமத்திலிருந்து அவருடைய சேவை விரிவடைந்தது.
1969ஆம் ஆண்டு "சக்கபாத்' கிராமத்தில் அவர் ஒரு பள்ளிக்கூடமும், ஒரு சம்ஸ்க்ருதக் கல்லூரியும் துவங்கினார். மத மாற்றத்தைத் தடுப்பதற்காக கிராமங்கள் தோறும் பஜனைக் கூடங்களை நிறுவினார். மூலைமுடுக்கெல்லாம் சென்று ஆன்மிகச் சொற்பொழிவுகள் நடத்தினார். அவருடைய சேவைகளும், சொற்பொழிவுகளும் வனவாசி மக்களிடம் பெரிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தின.
"கிறிஸ்து ஸ்தானம்' ஒன்றை உருவாக்க வேண்டும் என்கிற வேகத்தில் பணியாற்றிய கிறிஸ்தவ பாதிரிகளுக்கு, ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவின் சேவை பெரிய வேகத் தடையாகவும், உண்மையான எதிர்ப்பாகவும் மாறியது. எந்தெந்த மிஷனரி அமைப்புகள் திட்டமிட்டு பணிபுரிந்தனவோ, அவை தங்கள் வேலைகளில் தோல்வி அடைந்து, கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவை விட்டே வெளியேறின.
வனவாசி மக்களை முன்னேற்றும் நடவடிக்கைகளை அறிமுகப்படுத்தி பெரும் வெற்றிகண்டார் ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா. அதிகாரிகளையும் போலீஸையும் கண்டு, காரணமில்லாமல் பயந்த வனவாசிகளை, தன்னம்பிக்கையும் தைரியமும் உள்ளவர்களாக மாற்றினார். அவரது முயற்சியால் வனவாசிகள் உற்பத்தி செய்த "பீன்ஸ்' காய்கறி பிரபலமாகியது. கடிங்கா என்கிற இடத்தில்
வனவாசிகளை காய்கறி கூட்டுறவு இயக்கம் ஆரம்பிக்கத் தூண்டினார்.
மரங்களை வெட்டுவதைத் தடுத்து, காடுகளை வளர்த்தார் ஸ்வாமி. மரங்களுக்கு நம்பர்கள் கொடுத்து வெட்டுவதை நிறுத்தினார். மரத்தை வெட்ட அனுமதி கொடுக்க கிராம பஞ்சாயத்திற்கு மட்டுமே உரிமை என்ற விதி ஒன்றையும் கொண்டு வந்தார் லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா ஸ்வாமி.
மேலும் வனவாசிகளின் நம்பிக்கைகள், பழக்கவழக்கங்கள், கலாச்சாரம், சங்கீதம் உள்பட பொதுவான வாழ்க்கை முறைகள் – இவை எல்லாம் பாதுகாக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று அறிவுறுத்தினார். பசு பாதுகாப்பின் அவசியத்தையும், பசு மாமிசம் உண்ணக்கூடாது என்கிற கட்டுப்பாட்டையும் வளர்த்தார். அவர்களுடைய சொந்த வழிபாட்டு முறைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிக்க வலியுறுத்தி, அவர்களுடைய கோவில்களைப் புதுப்பித்தார்.
ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதியின் பெயரும் புகழும் கந்தமால் ஜில்லா மட்டுமல்லாமல், ஒரிஸ்ஸா முழுவதும் பரவியது. குக்கிராமமான சக்காபாத்தில் 1986லும், 2007லும் லட்சக்கணக்கான வனவாசி மக்களைத் திரட்டி அவர்களுக்கு தன்னம்பிக்கையும் ஊக்கமும் அளித்தார்.
பூரி சங்கராச்சார்ய ஸ்வாமிகள் மற்றும் கஜபதி மகாராஜா, ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதியின் சேவையைப் பாராட்டி, "அதர்மத்தை எதிர்க்கும் மகாரதி' மற்றும் "வேதாந்த கேசரி' என்று பட்டமளித்துக் கௌரவித்தனர்.
அவருடைய பணியின் காரணமாக கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளின் வேலையின் வேகமும் வெற்றியும் குறைந்தது. ஏராளமாக வெளிநாட்டிலிருந்து பணம்
வந்தும் அதற்கான பெரும் பலன்கள் அவர்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கவில்லை. 1999லிருந்து 2003 வரை ஐந்தாண்டுகளில் ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில் கிறிஸ்தவ தன்னார்வ நிறுவனங்கள் வெளிநாடுகளிலிருந்து பெற்ற தொகை ரூபாய் 183 கோடிக்கும் மேல். இந்தத் தொகையில் 10 சதவிகிதம் கூட ஹிந்து தன்னார்வ நிறுவனங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கவில்லை.
இவ்வளவு பண பலத்துடன், மைனாரிட்டி என்கிற போர்வையில், பத்திரிகை, அரசு, போலீஸ் உதவியுடன் மதமாற்றம் செய்யும் கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகள், ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதியை எதிர்த்து வந்தன. இதுவரை அவர் மீது ஒன்பது முறை கொலை முயற்சிகள் நடைபெற்றன. 24.12.2007 அன்று ஒன்பதாவது முறையாக கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளின் ஆதரவாளர்கள் 200 பேர் கொண்ட கும்பல் அவர் மீது தாக்குதல் நடத்தியது. இந்தத் தாக்குதலின் காரணமாக பெரும் கலவரம் அப்போதே ஏற்பட்டது என்று ஜனவரி 2008ல் வெளியிடப்பட்ட தேசிய சிறுபான்மை அமைப்பின் ஆய்வு தெரிவித்தது.
ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதியின் சேவை, மத மாற்றம் செய்யும் கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளின் கண்களை உறுத்தி வந்தது என்பது வெட்ட வெளிச்சமான உண்மை. அவரைப் பலமுறை கிறிஸ்தவ ஆதரவாளர்கள் தாக்க முயற்சி செய்தார்கள்; தாக்கவும் செய்தார்கள் என்பது ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில் எல்லோருக்கும் தெரிந்த உண்மை.
இந்த நிலையில்தான் ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதி 24.8.2008 அன்று, ஏ.கே. 47 துப்பாக்கி மூலமாக வாரி இறைக்கப்பட்ட குண்டுகளுக்கு பலியானார். அவருக்கு வயது 84. அவருடன் மேலும் நால்வரும் மடிந்தனர். இந்தக் கொலைக்கு அந்தக் கன்யாஸ்ரமத்தில் இருந்த பெண் குழந்தைகள் சாட்சி.
இந்தக் கொலையைச் செய்தது யார் என்பது பற்றி பெரும் சர்ச்சைகிளப்பப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. திசை திருப்பும் செய்திகள் வெளிவந்தபடி இருக்கின்றன. நக்ஸலைட்டுகள்தான் இதைச் செய்திருப்பார்கள் என்று முதலில் செய்திகள் வந்தன. நக்ஸலைட்டுகள் இதை மறுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். யார் இந்தக் கொலையைச் செய்திருப்பார்கள் என்பது பற்றி அடுத்த வாரம் பார்க்கலாம்.
கந்தமால் "பொய்'யில் மறைக்கப்பட்ட "உண்மை'கள் !
ஒரிஸ்ஸாவிலுள்ள கந்தமால் மாவட்டம் இன்று உலகப் புகழ்பெற்ற இடமாக
மாறியிருக்கிறது. "அங்கு ஹிந்து வெறியர்களால் அப்பாவி கிறிஸ்தவ மக்கள் படுகொலை செய்யப்படுகிறார்கள்' – என்று கிறிஸ்தவ மக்கள் நம்பும்படியாக நம் நாட்டிலிருந்து பிரச்சாரம் நடந்து வருகிறது. ஹிந்து வெறியர்கள் என்றால் வி.ஹெச்.பி., சங்பரிவார் என்று அர்த்தம். இது உண்மை கலந்த பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரமானதால், இதில் பொய் எது என்பதைப் பிரித்துக் கூறுவது மிகவும் கடினம். இதில் உண்மை என்ன என்பதை முதலில் பார்ப்போம்.
முதலில் ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவும், அவருடைய நான்கு சீடர்களும் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டார்கள்; பின்பு நடந்த கலவரத்தில் பலர் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கின்றனர். வீடுகள், வழிபாட்டு ஸ்தலங்கள் அழிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. இது உண்மை. ஆனால், இவையெல்லாம் கிறிஸ்தவ சமுதாயத்தைக் குறிவைத்து, அவர்கள் மட்டுமே கொலை செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்று நடக்கிற பிரச்சாரம், பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரம். இன்றைய நிலையில் – பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரத்தை உண்மை என்று நாடே நினைக்கும்போது – உண்மை என்ன என்று எடுத்துக் கூறுவது நம்முடைய கடமை. இந்த உணர்வில்தான், அங்கொன்றும்
இங்கொன்றுமாகப் பத்திரிகைகளிலும் இன்டர்நெட்டிலும் வெளிவந்த உண்மைகளைத் தொகுத்து எழுதுகிறேன்.
ஒன்று – கந்தமால் மாவட்டத்தில் நடந்த கலவரத்தையும், கொலைகளையும் நம் நாட்டு யதார்த்த நிலையின்படி பார்த்தால், அவை ஹிந்து – கிறிஸ்தவ மத விரோதம்
சம்பந்தப்பட்டது மட்டுமே என்று கூற முடியாது. மதம் கலந்திருப்பது உண்மை. ஆனால், ஆதாரமான காரணம் வேறு. கந்தமாலில் மதம் மாறாத "கந்த்' என்கிற மலை வாழ் மக்களுக்கும், "பணா' என்கிற (கிட்டத்தட்ட 80 சதவிகிதம் கிறிஸ்தவ மதத்துக்கு மாறிவிட்ட) தலித் சமுதாயத்துக்கும் இடையே, பாரம்பரிய நில உரிமை மற்றும் இட ஒதுக்கீடு சம்பந்தமாக ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் விரோதம்தான் ஆதாரமான காரணம்.
"கந்த்' சமுதாயம் எஸ்.டி. வகுப்பைச் சேர்ந்தது; "பணா' சமுதாயம் எஸ்.ஸி. வகுப்பைச் சேர்ந்தது. அரசியல் சட்டப்படி கிறிஸ்தவராக மதம் மாறிய எஸ்.ஸி. வகுப்பினருக்கு இடஒதுக்கீடு கிடையாது. ஆனால், அப்படி மதம் மாறினாலும் எஸ்.டி. வகுப்பினருக்கு இடஒதுக்கீடு தொடரும். "பணா' சமுதாயம், கிறிஸ்தவ மற்றும் காங்கிரஸ் போன்ற "மதச்சார்பற்ற' கட்சிகளின் உதவியுடன் எஸ்.டி. அந்தஸ்து கேட்டுப் போராட்டம் நடத்தி வருகிறது. இதை கந்த் சமுதாயம் கடுமையாக எதிர்க்கிறது.
இதனால்தான், நெருப்பில்லாமலேயே பற்றிக் கொள்கிற ஒரு நிலை கந்தமால் மாவட்டத்தில் இருந்து வருகிறது. இவையெல்லாம் அரசாங்க ஆய்வறிக்கைகளிலும், பத்திரிகைகளிலும் வெளிவந்திருக்கும் உண்மைகள். இவற்றை யாரும் மறுக்க முடியாது. ஆக, அடிப்படையாக ஹிந்துக்களாகவே வாழும் "கந்த்' எஸ்.டி. பிரிவினருக்கும், கிறிஸ்தவராக மாறிவிட்ட "பணா' பிரிவினருக்கும் இடையே, பெரிய கலவரம் வெடிக்க ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா கொலை ஒரு சந்தர்ப்பமாக அமைந்தது.
இந்த "கந்த் – பணா' விரோதம் என்பது ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில் சங்பரிவார், வி.ஹெச்.பி.யினர் தங்கள் வேலைகளைப் பெரிய அளவில் துவங்குவதற்கு முன்னரே இருந்து வந்தது. 1992ஆம் ஆண்டு கந்தமாலில், கந்த் – பணா பிரிவினருக்கு இடையே நடந்த கலவரம் கட்டுக்கடங்காமல், மூன்று மாதங்கள் தொடர்ந்து நடந்தது. 20 பேருக்கு மேல் கொல்லப்பட்டார்கள்.
அப்போதுதான் ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ்., வி.ஹெச்.பி. இயக்கங்கள் ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில் வேலையைத் துவக்குகின்றன. பஜ்ரங்தள் இயக்கம் துவங்கவே இல்லை. ஆனால், கிறிஸ்தவ மிஷனரிகள் கந்தமாலில் நுழைந்து தீவிரமாக மத மாற்றம் செய்து, கிறிஸ்தவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை 1961ல் 19,128லிருந்ததை, 2001ல் 1,17,757 ஆகப் பெருக்கினர். இப்படி தீவிரமாக மத மாற்றம் நடப்பதை எதிர்த்துத்தான், ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா மற்றும் வி.ஹெச்.பி. இயக்கங்கள், 1990களில் தங்களுடைய மதமாற்ற எதிர்ப்பைத் தீவிரமாக்கினர்.
ஆக, கிறிஸ்தவ மத மாற்றம், அதை எதிர்த்து ஹிந்து இயக்கங்களின் போராட்டம்
– இப்படி மாறியது கந்தமால் நிலவரம். 1992க்குப் பின் இது ஹிந்து – கிறிஸ்தவ கலவரமாக மாறியது கொஞ்சம் உண்மை.
முக்கியமான விஷயம் என்னவென்றால், மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சரான
சிவராஜ் பாட்டீல் கூட "கந்தமால் கலவரம் மதக் கலவரம் அல்ல, நில உரிமை மற்றும் இட ஒதுக்கீடு காரணமானது' என்று கூறியிருக்கிறார். இந்தச் செய்தி 6.9.2008 எகனாமிக் டைம்ஸ் பத்திரிகையில் மட்டும் வந்திருந்தது.
இந்த முறை நடைபெற்ற கலவரத்தில் கந்த், பணா – ஆகிய இருபிரிவினரும் பரஸ்பரம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டனர். இந்த இரண்டு பிரிவினரும் கொலைகள் மற்ற நாசச் செயல்களில் ஈடுபட்டனர். கிறிஸ்தவ சமுதாயம் மட்டுமே குறிவைக்கப்பட்டது, அல்லது பாதிக்கப்பட்டது என்று கூறுவது முழுப் பொய். "டெக்கான் கிரானிக்கிள்' பத்திரிகையின் ஆய்வு என்ன கூறுகிறது பாருங்கள். ""இந்த முறை ஹிந்து அடிப்படைவாதிகளின் தாக்குதல்களுக்குக் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் எதிர்த்துப் பதிலடி கொடுத்திருக்கின்றனர்.
""கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் ஹிந்துக்களின் வீடுகளைத் தீக்கிரையாக்கினார்கள். மேலும், துப்பாக்கிகளால் சுட்டும் கொலைகள் செய்தார்கள். இதனாலேயே
மாவோயிஸ்டுகளான நக்ஸலைட்டுகள், கிறிஸ்தவர்களுடன் இணைந்து அவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்தார்களோ என்று சந்தேகம் வருகிறது. கிறிஸ்தவர்களிடம் துப்பாக்கி எப்படி வந்தது? "கந்த்' மக்கள் கையாலும், தடியாலும், கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் துப்பாக்கியாலும் பரஸ்பரம் தாக்கிக்கொண்டனர். இதனால் ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில் ஒரு புதிய கோணம் உருவாகியிருக்கிறது. அதாவது, கிறிஸ்தவ பயங்கரவாதம் ஒரிஸ்ஸாவில்
துவங்கியிருக்கிறது'' என்கிற உண்மையை வெளிக்கொண்டு வந்திருக்கிறது டெக்கான் கிரானிக்கிள் பத்திரிகை. எந்த அளவுக்கு கிறிஸ்தவ பயங்கரவாதம் வளர்ந்திருக்கிறது என்பதைக் கணிக்க, ஒரிஸ்ஸா அரசு முயன்று வருகிறது – என்றும் கூறுகிறது அந்தப் பத்திரிகை.
இதிலிருந்து கந்தமாலில் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் படுகொலை செய்யப்படுகிறார்கள், கொடுமைப்படுத்தப்படுகிறார்கள் என்று ஒருதலைப் பட்சமாகப் பேசுவதும் எழுதுவதும் பொய் மட்டுமல்ல, நாட்டுக்கே தீங்கு இழைக்கக்கூடிய செயல் என்பதும் நமக்குப் புரியும். வெளிநாட்டுப் பண உதவியுடன், பரஸ்பர விரோதங்களைத் தோற்றுவிக்கும் தீவிரவாத கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகள் உருவாக்கும் மதமாற்றம் என்பது, கந்தமால் போன்ற மலைவாழ் மக்கள் வாழும் இடங்களில் எப்படி பெரிய பூகம்பங்களை உண்டு பண்ணுகின்றன என்பது, திருச்சி செயின்ட் ஜோசப்
கல்லூரியிலும், சென்னை லயோலா கல்லூரியிலும் படித்த ஹிந்துக்களுக்குப் புரிய வாய்ப்பில்லை.
பொதுவாக, கிறிஸ்தவ மதம், உலகையே கிறிஸ்தவ உலகமாக மாற்றுவதை தன்னுடைய குறிக்கோளாகக் கொண்டது. இதை எப்படிச் செய்வது என்பதில்தான் கிறிஸ்தவ இயக்கங்களுக்குள் வேறுபாடே தவிர, நோக்கத்தில் வித்தியாசமே கிடையாது. இதனால்தான் மற்ற மதங்களுடன் இணைந்து செயல்படும் குணம் கிறிஸ்தவ மதத்தில் குறைவாக இருக்கிறது – என்று சுவாமி தயானந்த சரஸ்வதி போன்ற ஹிந்து சமய ஆன்மீகவாதிகள் கூறுகிறார்கள். ஆக, மத மாற்றம், அதன் உள்நோக்கம், அதனால் ஏற்படும் விரோதங்கள், ஏற்கெனவே இருக்கும்
விரோதங்களை நெய் ஊற்றி வளர்ப்பது போன்ற காரணங்களால்தான் கந்தமாலில் இப்படிப்பட்ட நிலை உருவாகியிருக்கிறது.
இந்தக் கொலை, கலவரங்களில் ஒரு பிரிவினர் மட்டும் குறிவைக்கப்படவில்லை; இருபிரிவினரும் கடும் குற்றங்கள் புரிந்திருக்கின்றனர். ஆக, அப்பாவி கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் மட்டும்தான் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றனர் என்பது முழுப் பொய் – நாட்டு விரோத சக்திகளால், பத்திரிகைகளின் உதவியால், மதச்சார்பற்ற ஓட்டு வங்கி அரசியல் காரணமாக ஜோடிக்கப்பட்ட பொய். இது நம் நாட்டிற்கே பெரிய அவமானத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது. இதுபோன்ற பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரத்தை எதிர்க்க வேண்டியது, நம் நாட்டின் மீது பக்தி கொண்ட ஹிந்து, கிறிஸ்தவ, முஸ்லிம் சமுதாயத்தைச் சேர்ந்த எல்லோருடைய கடமையாகும்.
இந்தப் பின்னணியில்தான் கடந்த ஆகஸ்ட் 23ஆம் தேதி ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சரஸ்வதியின் படுகொலை நடந்தது. அன்று கோகுலாஷ்டமி நாள். குறிப்பாக வட
மாநிலங்களில் விரதம் அனுஷ்டிக்கும் நாள். "அவருடைய படுகொலை, இளைஞர்களுக்கு ஆத்திரத்தையும், பெண்களுக்கு பிரமிப்பையும்
உருவாக்கியிருக்கிறது' – என்று எழுதியது "இந்தியன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ்' பத்திரிகை.
அவருடன் ஒரு பெண் ஸந்நியாசி உட்பட 4 பேர் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டனர். கொலை நடந்த நாள், கொலைகள் செய்யப்பட்ட விதம்; கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட பெண் ஸந்நியாசியின் உடல் அவமானப்படுத்தப்பட்டது; முதலில் கைதானவர்கள் யார் யார்; பின்னணியில் யார் யார் இருக்கக்கூடும் – என்பதைப் பார்த்தால், இவையெல்லாம் திட்டமிட்டுச் செய்யப்பட்டது என்று தோன்றுகிறது.
அந்தக் கொலைகள் நடப்பதற்கு முன் கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகள், ஸ்வாமிகளை கடந்த டிசம்பர் மாதம் தாக்கினார்கள். "அவரை தீர்த்துக் கட்டினால் பெரும் கலவரம் ஏற்படும். அதன் மூலமாக கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் தாக்கப்படுவார்கள். அதை வைத்து "கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் படுகொலை செய்யப்படுகிறார்கள்' என்கிற பிரச்சாரத்தை நம் நாட்டிலும், வெளிநாட்டிலும் சுலபமாகச் செய்ய முடியும். இந்தப் பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரத்திற்கு செக்யுலர் பத்திரிகைகள், அரசியல்வாதிகள், கட்சிகள் ஆகியோர், தங்கள் தங்கள் காரணத்திற்காக ஒத்துழைப்புத் தருவார்கள்' என்று கணித்திருக்கிறார்கள். இந்த
முறையில் நாடு முழுவதும் கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளைத் தூண்டி விட முடியும் என்று ஆழ்ந்த, திட்டமிட்ட சதியோ இது என்று தோன்றுகிறது.
இதற்குக் காரணம், இதற்கு முன்பு உண்மைகளைப் பொய்ப் பிரச்சாரத்தின் மூலம், குறுகிய காலத்தில் மூடி மறைப்பதை, நாட்டின் விரோத சக்திகள் செய்திருப்பதுதான். முன்கூட்டியே திட்டமிடாமல் இதைச் செய்திருக்கவே முடியாது என்பது, என்னுடன் பேசிய முன்னாள் உளவுத்துறையைச் சேர்ந்த உயர் அதிகாரி ஒருவரின் கணிப்பும் கூட. ஸ்வாமிகளின் கொலைக்குப் பின்னணி யார் என்பதைக் கண்டுவிட்டால், இந்தச் சதி ஓரளவுக்கு விளங்கும். அதுபற்றி, அடுத்த வாரம்.
லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா படுகொலை – யார் கொலையாளி ?
ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா படுகொலை நடந்தது 2008, ஆகஸ்ட் 23ஆம் தேதி சனிக்கிழமை இரவு சுமார் 8 மணி. நடந்த விதம் இதோ:
* சுமார் 30 அல்லது 40 பேர் கொண்ட கொலைப் படை ஆச்ரமத்தைச் சூழ்ந்து கொண்டது.
* பார்த்தவர்கள் கூறியபடி, நான்கு பேர் ஏ.கே.47 துப்பாக்கிகளும், மற்ற பலர் நாட்டுத் துப்பாக்கிகளும் ஏந்தியிருந்தனர்.
* காவலுக்கு இருந்தது தடி மட்டுமே வைத்திருந்த "ஹோம் கார்டு' போலீஸ்காரர்கள் நான்கு பேர்; அவர்களில் இருவர் இரவு உணவுக்குச் சென்றிருந்தனர். மற்ற இருவர் மட்டுமே காவல் பணியில் இருந்தனர்.
* கொலையாளிகள் அந்த இருவரையும் கை, கால்களுடன், வாயையும் மூடிக் கட்டிவிட்டனர்.
* ஆச்ரமத்தின் உள்ளே சென்ற அவர்கள் ஸ்வாமியைத் தேடினார்கள்;
குளியலறையில் இருந்த அவரை ஏ.கே.47 துப்பாக்கியால் சரமாரியாகச் சுட்டுக் கொலை செய்தனர். வெளியறையில் இருந்த மூன்று ஸந்நியாசிகளையும், ஒரு பக்தரையும் கூடக் கொலை செய்தனர். அவர்களில் ஒருவர் பெண் ஸந்நியாசி.
இறந்த அவருடைய உடலை அவமானப்படுத்தினார்கள்.
காங்கிரஸ் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினரான ராதாகாந்த் நாயக் என்பவரின் கிராமத்தில், சென்ற ஆண்டு டிசம்பரில் ஸ்வாமிகள் மீது தாக்குதல் நடந்தது. அவர் பணா எஸ்.ஸி. வகுப்பைச் சேர்ந்தவர். ப்ரமோஷன் செய்யப்பட்ட ஐ.ஏ.எஸ். அதிகாரி – பதவி ஓய்வு பெற்று அரசியலில் சேர்ந்த கிறிஸ்தவர்; ஆனால் எஸ்.ஸி. தகுதியைத் தக்கவைத்துக் கொள்வதற்காக மதம் மாறியதை மறைத்து வைத்திருப்பவர். சோனியாகாந்திக்கு மிகவும் வேண்டியவர். அதனால் ஒரிஸ்ஸா காங்கிரஸில் அவருக்கு "மவுசு' அதிகம்.
ஸ்வாமிகள் மீது நடந்த தாக்குதல் அவருடைய "கைவண்ணம்' என்று பலரும் நினைக்கிறார்கள். "அவர்தான் அந்தத் தாக்குதலை நடத்தினார்' என்று ஸ்வாமிகளும் அப்போது பகிரங்கமாகக் குற்றம்சாட்டினார். அதற்கு நாயக்,
"ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா என்று ஒருவர் எங்கள் ஜில்லாவில் இருக்கிறார் என்றே எனக்குத் தெரியாது' என்றார். இது அப்பட்டமான பொய் என்பது எல்லோருக்கும் தெரியும். அந்தத் தாக்குதல் நடப்பதற்குச் சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்புதான், ஐந்து லட்சம் பேர் கொண்ட ஒரு மலைவாழ் மக்கள் பேரணியை, கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவில் நடத்தி ஒரிஸ்ஸாவையே கலக்கியிருந்தார் ஸ்வாமி அவர்கள்.
டிசம்பர் 24, 2007–ல் நடந்த தாக்குதலில் படுகாயமுற்ற ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா, ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டு குணமடைந்தார். போலீஸார் வழக்குப் பதிவு செய்தனர். இன்றுவரை யாரும் கைதுசெய்யப்படவில்லை. அதற்கு முன் ஒன்பது முறை ஸ்வாமிகள் மீது தாக்குதல் நடந்திருக்கின்றன. "இந்தத் தாக்குதல்களில் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்கள் எல்லோரும், புதியதாக மதம் மாறிய கிறிஸ்தவர்கள்' – என்று ஒரிஸ்ஸாவின் முன்னாள் கூடுதல் டி.ஜி.பி. அசோக் சாகு என்பவர், தன்னுடைய கட்டுரையில் எழுதியிருக்கிறார்.
""கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளில் தொடர்புள்ள பல இளைஞர்கள் மாவோயிஸ்ட் அமைப்புகளில் சேர்ந்திருக்கின்றனர். டிசம்பர் 2007 கலவரத்தின்போது, ஹிந்து மலைவாழ் மக்கள் மீது தாக்குதல் நடத்தப்பட்ட நான்கு கிராமங்களில் நடந்த போலீஸ் சோதனையில், 47 மாவோயிஸ்ட்கள் (கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் அல்லது கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளுடன் சேர்ந்து ஹிந்துக்களைத் தாக்கியவர்கள்) கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டார்கள்.
""அவர்களிடமிருந்து 20 துப்பாக்கிகள் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டன. இதிலிருந்து கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளுக்கும், மாவோயிஸ்ட்களுக்கும் இடையே உறவு இருப்பது வெளிப்பட்டது. மேலும் பல கிராமங்களில் துப்பாக்கியைக் காட்டிக் கூட மதமாற்றம் நடந்திருக்கிறது'' என்றும் எழுதியிருக்கிறார் அந்த ஓய்வு பெற்ற போலீஸ் அதிகாரி.
""அரசாங்கத்தில் பதவியில் இருக்கும்போதே ரகசியமாக மதம் மாறிய
ராதாகாந்த் நாயக் ஐ.ஏ.எஸ். மற்றும் வெளிப்படையாக கிறிஸ்தவரான ஜான் நாயக் ஐ.பி.எஸ். இருவரும், பணா எஸ்.ஸி. மக்களை மதம் மாற்றும் கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளுக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருந்துள்ளனர்.
""மதமாற்றத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகள், ஸ்வாமிகளைக்
குறிவைத்திருந்தனர் என்பதில் எந்தச் சந்தேகமுமில்லை. மலைவாழ் மக்கள் மற்றும் பழங்குடியினர் வாழும் இடத்தில் மதமாற்றம் நடக்கும்போது, அதன் விளைவுகள்
பயங்கரமாக மாறுகின்றன.
""அதுபோன்ற மலைவாழ் மக்களிடம் நடக்கும் மதமாற்றங்கள் நாகாலாந்து, மிசோரம், மேகாலயா, திரிபுரா போன்ற இடங்களில் கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாதமாகவும்,
பயங்கரவாதமாகவும் மாறி, பிரிவினை சக்திகளைக் கூட தூண்டிவிட்டிருக்கிறது என்பது எல்லோருக்கும் தெரிந்ததே. மத மாற்றத்தால், மதம் மாறுவதற்கு முன்பு அவர்களிடையே இருந்த விரோதம் அதிகமாவது மட்டுமல்லாமல், அவர்களிடையே எந்தக் கலவரம் நடந்தாலும், அது கிறிஸ்தவர்களுக்கு எதிரானது என்று உலகம் முழுவதும் பிரச்சாரம் செய்யப்படுகிறது.
""அதனால் மதம் மாறாத மலைவாழ் மக்கள் மீது அரசின் தாக்குதலும், பத்திரிகைகளின் சாடுதலும் நடக்கின்றன. அவர்களுக்கு உறுதுணையாக எந்த ஹிந்து அமைப்பு நின்றாலும் அவர்கள் "வகுப்புவாதிகள், தீவிரவாதிகள்' என்று பட்டம் கட்டப்படுகிறார்கள்; மதம் மாறாதவர்களை நிராயுதபாணிகளாகச் செய்யும் வகையில் அரசியல் சாசன அமைப்பும், பத்திரிகைகளின் போக்கும், அறிவுஜீவிகளின் போதனைகளும் அமைந்திருக்கின்றன. அதனால்தான் கிறிஸ்தவராக மதம் மாறிய "பணா' சமூகத்தினருக்கு அரசியல் சட்டத்தில் "சிறுபான்மையினர்' என்கிற பாதுகாப்பு; மதச்சார்பற்ற கட்சிகள், தலைவர்கள், பத்திரிகைகளின் பரிவு, உலக கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளின் ஆதரவு, பணம் எல்லாம் கிடைக்கின்றன.
""ஆனால், மதம் மாறாமல், தங்களுடைய வழிபாடு, கலாச்சாரம் காக்கப் போராடும்
"கந்தா' மலைவாழ் மக்கள், அரசியல் சட்டரீதியாக பெரும்பான்மை சமுதாயத்தைச் சேர்ந்ததால் அவர்களுக்கு எந்தவிதமான உதவியோ, அல்லது ஆதரவோ கிடையாது. அவர்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா சேவை செய்தால், அவருக்குக் கூட பாதுகாப்புக் கிடையாது.
""ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவுக்கு உதவி செய்தது ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ்., வி.ஹெச்.பி. போன்ற அமைப்புகள். அதனால் ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவுக்கு "வகுப்புவாதி' என்கிற பட்டம். கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவில் மதம் மாறியவர்கள் பாக்கியசாலிகள்; மதம் மாறாதவர்கள் துரதிர்ஷ்டம் செய்தவர்கள். இந்த நிலையில் மதம் மாறாதவர்களுக்கு ஒரே ஆதரவாக இருந்தார் ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா. அவரைத் தீர்த்துக்கட்டி விட்டால் தங்கள் மதமாற்ற வேலைகளுக்கு எந்தத் தடையும் இல்லாமல் செய்துவிடலாம் என்பதுதான், கந்தமாலில், தீவிர எண்ணம் கொண்ட கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளின் சிந்தனையாகவும், நோக்கமாகவும் இருந்திருக்கிறது.
இந்தத் தீவிரவாதம் வளர பணா, கந்தா சமூகத்தினரிடையே வளர்ந்து வந்த விரோதம், மத மாற்றம் முக்கியமான காரணம். இதனுடன் இணைந்தன மாவோயிஸ்ட் அமைப்புகள்'' – என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறார் அந்த போலீஸ் அதிகாரி.
ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தா மீது டிசம்பர் 2007ல் நடந்த தாக்குதலுக்குப் பிறகு, எப்படி மாவோயிஸ்ட்களும் கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாத அமைப்புகளும் இணைந்து செயல்படுகின்றன என்பதை விளக்கி, தேபசிஸ் திரிபாதி என்கிற பத்திரிகையாளர் "ஆர்கனைசர்' (ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ்.ஆதரவுப் பத்திரிகை) பத்திரிகையில் 13.1.2008 அன்று எழுதிய கட்டுரையில் கூறுகிறார் : ""கிறிஸ்தவ பாதிரிகள் மாவோயிஸ்ட்களை அழைத்து, மதம் மாறாத மலைவாழ் மக்களைத் தாக்க வைத்தனர். அந்தப் பகுதியின் போலீஸ் சூப்பரின்டெண்டென்டாக இருந்த அபிதேந்திர நாத் சின்கா, தீவிரவாத கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்புகளுடன் சேர்ந்து, மதம் மாறாத மக்களை மாவோயிஸ்ட்கள் எப்படித் தாக்கினார்கள் என்று, தான் நேரில் கண்டதைக் கூறினார்.
""2007 டிசம்பர் 28 அன்று நான் பிராமணிகாவ் கிராமத்திற்கு, 40 பேர் கொண்ட போலீஸ் படையுடன் சென்றிருந்தேன். கலவரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தவர்கள், மதம் மாறாதவர்களின் வீடுகளுக்குத் தீ வைத்தனர். அவர்களை நாங்கள் எச்சரித்தபோது, அவர்கள் அஞ்சாமல் எங்களை நோக்கி வந்தனர். அவர்களில் ஒருவர் திடீரென்று, தேர்ச்சி பெற்ற மாவோயிஸ்ட்போல துப்பாக்கியால் சுட ஆரம்பித்தார். நான் மயிரிழையில் தப்பினேன். ஆனால், ஒரு போலீஸ்காரர் காயம் அடைந்தார். பிறகு அவர்கள் "ஆட்டோமேடிக் துப்பாக்கியால்' 100 ரௌண்டுகள் சுட்டனர். இது என்னை ஆச்சரியத்தில் ஆழ்த்தியது. மாவோயிஸ்ட்கள் கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாதிகளுடன்
சம்பந்தப்பட்டிருக்கின்றனர் என்பதில் எனக்குச் சந்தேகமில்லை'' – என்று அந்த போலீஸ் அதிகாரி கூறியதை அப்பத்திரிகையாளர் எழுதியிருந்தார். யாராலும் இது மறுக்கப்படவில்லை.
மேற்கு ஒரிஸ்ஸா போலீஸ்துறை, கந்தமால் பகுதியில், சேவை என்கிற போர்வையில் வேலை செய்யும் கிறிஸ்தவ தன்னார்வ அமைப்புகளைத் தடை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று வேண்டியது. காரணம் – அவர்களுடைய பணம் மாவோயிஸ்ட்களுக்குப் பெருமளவு கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆக, மாவோயிஸ்ட்களும், கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாத அமைப்புகளும் கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவில் சேர்ந்து செயல்படுகிறார்கள் என்பது டிசம்பர் 2007லேயே வெட்ட வெளிச்சமாகியது.
இதனால்தான் மாவோயிஸ்ட்கள் மூலமாக கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாத அமைப்புகள்,
ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவைப் படுகொலை செய்திருக்கலாம் என்கிற எண்ணம் வலுத்து வருகிறது. மாவோயிஸ்ட்களில் ஒரு பகுதியினர், "கொலையைத் தாங்கள் செய்ததாக'வும்; இன்னொரு பகுதியினர், "எங்களுக்குத் தொடர்பில்லை' என்றும் கூறியுள்ளனர். "இது மாவோயிஸ்ட்களின் பொது வேலையில்லை; அதில் ஒரு
பகுதியினர் கூலிப்படையாக இருந்து இந்தக் கொலையைச் செய்திருக்கலாம்' – என்று மற்ற பகுதியினர் கருதுகிறார்கள்.
இந்தக் கொலை சம்பந்தமாக கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாதிகள் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள் என்கிற விவரத்தை, கிறிஸ்தவர் ஒருவரால் நடத்தப்படும் கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாதம் பற்றிய இணையதளம், 25.8.2008 அன்று வெளியிட்டது. அதன் விவரம் : "கந்தமால் ஜில்லாவிலிருந்து தப்பித்து ஓடும்போது, கிறிஸ்தவ அமைப்பில் பணியாற்றும் பிரதேஷ் குமார்தாஸ் என்பவரைப் போலீஸ் கைது செய்தது. மேலும், விக்ரம் திகில், வில்லியம் திகில் என்கிற இருவரை, கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாதியான லால் திகில் என்கிறவர் வீட்டிலிருந்து போலீஸ் கைது செய்தது. ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவைத் தாக்கிய கும்பலில் அவர்கள் இருந்ததாக ஒப்புக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர்'.
ஆக, ஸ்வாமி லக்ஷ்மணானந்தாவின் கொலையை கிறிஸ்தவ தீவிரவாதிகளும், மாவோயிஸ்ட்களும் சேர்ந்து செய்திருக்கின்றனர் என்றே பலரும் நினைக்கிறார்கள்.

Fr. Edward Sequeira, a priest belonging to the Society of Divine Word (SVD), was one of those who was seriously injured when his mission station was attacked by the mob in Orissa.
Currently recuperating at Burla Medical College Hospital, Sambalpur, Fr. Sequeira, upon gaining consciousness, narrated the story to his brother Commodore Valentine Sequeira who writes:
A large mob of more than 700 people were returning after attending the cremation of Swami Laxmananand Saraswati who was killed along with four others Saturday evening by suspected Maoist guerrillas at his Jalespata ashram.
The mob was chanting anti-Christian slogans and when they reached Padampur in Bargarh district, they attacked the orphanage where Fr Edward lived.
Ms. Rajni, a 20 year old student who lived in the orphanage and was also working as an auxiliary nurse in the orphanage confronted them.
When Fr Sequeira arrived at the spot, the mob locked him and Rajni into separate rooms, and ordered the children to vacate the orphanage. The mob then ransacked Fr Sequeira's room, poured petrol on him, Rajni and set the orphanage on fire.

"I was engulfed in flames, I could hear the cries of Rajni and the mob was cheering and shouting through the windows," recalls Fr Sequeira.
He however, managed to crawl to the bathroom, beat out the flames and closed the windows.
"When I started to suffocate I found a crack on the wall that was damaged in the attack and kept my nose there to breath some air. All the while I could hear the cries of Rajni from the next room where she was writhing in agony. After sometime, there was silence and I thought she must have managed to escape from the room," recalled Fr Sequeira.
Unknown to Fr Edward, the girl was burnt alive and had breathed her last.

People from the neighborhood who heard the cries of children rushed to the rescue, broke the walls and brought him to safety. That is when the mob attacked him again outside the orphanage and beat him up mercilessly till he became unconscious. He was initially rushed to the hospital at Padampur and later with the help of local officials was shifted to Burla Medical College Hospital, in Sambalpur.
"The cries of Rajni and the guilt of helplessness in saving her life will always haunt me," Fr. Edward sighs.
Orissa: Hindu extremists burn one nun alive, rape another
Bubaneshwar (AsiaNews) – A Catholic nun was burnt alive by a group of Hindu fundamentalists who stormed the orphanage she ran in the district of Bargarh (Orissa), this according to Police Superintendent Ashok Biswall. A priest who was at the orphanage was also badly hurt and is now being treated in hospital for multiple burns. Another nun from Bubaneshwar's Social Centre was gang raped by groups of Hindu extremists before the building housing the facility was set on fire. Sources also told AsiaNews that elsewhere one priest was wounded and two other were abducted. The list of violent anti-Christian acts is thus getting longer.
For the past two days the state of Orissa (north-east India) has been racked by violence following the assassination of radical Hindu leader Swami Laxanananda Saraswati.
Churches, community and pastoral centres, convents and orphanages have been attacked yesterday and today by mobs shouting "Kill the Christians; destroy their institutions."
Tensions in the state are in fact still running high. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has planned demonstrations for today and tomorrow. Gangs of Hindu fanatics from the VHP as well as Sangh Parivar are roaming roads and villages, setting up road blocks, sending their own members on raids of plunder and violence.
According to firsthand accounts the archdiocese's social centre was attacked and torched. Before that the attackers raped Sister Meena, a nun working at the centre.
The local pastoral centre, which has escaped destruction in last December's violence, is now a total wreck. Father Thomas, who ran the facility, is in hospital with serious head injuries.
Speaking to AsiaNews Fr Ajay Singh also said that a nun was burnt alive in an orphanage she ran in the district of Bargarh.
Elsewhere Sisters of Mother Teresa have been attacked by stone-throwing Hindu militants with one seriously injured.
All Christian institutions are now in danger because mobs of Hindu radicals are roaming the streets, breaking down doors and smashing windows, including in some cases Christian homes. Many priests and nuns have had to escape.
In Bubaneshwar Hindu militants stoned the Archbishop's residence, but did not dare invade the place because of police presence.
In Phulbani the parish church and the home of local clergy were attacked and set on fire. All local priests fled and found refuge in the homes of some of members of the local congregation.
The youth hostel that houses students who study in Phulbani has also been torched.
Some missionaries of Charity who were attending a health course in Brahamanigoan were blocked for hours in the village.
Elsewhere nuns left their convent finding shelter in some school buildings.
Fr. Thomas Chellen Describes the Orissa Mob Ordeal
Fr. Thomas Chellen, director of the pastoral center that was destroyed with a bomb, had a narrow escape after a Hindu mob nearly set him on fire. Currently undergoing treatment at a Catholic hospital in Orissa's capital Bhubaneswar, Fr. Chellen had this horrifying experience to share with Catholic News Service:
"They had poured kerosene on my head, and one held a matchbox in his hands to light the fire. But thanks to divine providence, in the end, they did not do that. Otherwise, I would not have been there to tell this horror," the 55-year-old priest, director of the pastoral center at Konjamendi in the Indian state of Orissa, told Catholic News Service in a telephone interview from his hospital bed Aug. 28.
When a Hindu mob of 500 people broke into the pastoral center around noon Aug. 24, Father Chellen said he fled through the backyard with another priest and a nun.
"It was heartbreaking for us to watch from a distance the entire complex go up in smoke," said Father Chellen, who had supervised the construction of the center that opened in 2001 and could accommodate 200 people.
"They vandalized everything and set it on fire. It has been reduced to ashes," he added.
As the three watched from a distance, some other priests told them to flee.
"We fled to the jungles and came in the night to take shelter in the house of a Hindu friend and spent the night there," Father Chellen said, adding that the second priest left them to join other priests.
The following morning, he said, the Hindu family moved the priest and nun to an adjacent vacant house and locked it to give the impression that no one was inside.
However, the Hindu mobs overheard the priest speaking on his cell phone, broke into the room and dragged him and the nun outside.
"They began our crucifixion parade," said Father Chellen. The gang of about 50 armed Hindus "beat us up and led us like culprits along the road" to the burned pastoral center.
"There they tore my shirt and started pulling off the clothes of the nun. When I protested, they beat me hard with iron rods. Later, they took the sister inside (and) raped her while they went on kicking and teasing me, forcing (me) to say vulgar words," said the priest who has cuts, bruises and swollen tissue all over his body and stitches on his face.
"Later both of us, half-naked, were taken to the street, and they ordered me to have sex with the nun in public, saying nuns and priests do it. As I refused, they went on beating me and dragged us to the nearby government office. Sadly, a dozen policemen were watching all this," he said.
Angry at his plea to the police for help, the mob beat the bleeding priest again.
Later, a government official and members of the mob took the priest and the nun to the police station, where Father Chellen said he was kicked in the face.
"The four-hour ordeal ended when a senior police officer arrived in the evening," said Father Chellen.
The priest said one of the most hurtful things about the incident was that some local Hindus whom he knew were watching the events and ignored his requests for help.

The Swami's killing is definitely very unfortunate and so are the attrocities against other Christians and churches. Violence in any form cannot be justified and that too when the retaliation is against a community rather than the actual perpetrators. But on large scale today, especially in India, this is what is happening - an offence committed causes a backlash on a whole community.
Gurumurthy's article is on similar lines. Instead of condemning the culprits, he seems to be justifying the counter attacks - this sends a very wrong message. Then what civilisation can we claim ourselves to have acquired over all these years?

The fact is all religions have shades of violence and not a single religion in this world is wholly peaceful. We all have read about Christiance violence in history in Crusades, Spanish/Portuguese Inquistions, slavery etc., when they are in majority. As for as this violence is concerned, first Xians should stop playing victimhood card as it can only intensify anger. My point is things have been bad everywhere and in every religion. i very much agree on you. DR. B.R.A told the same thing and he himself converted to Budhhism.
My Ancesters converted to Christian..because of this my father got a good education and we too. we all studied in the Jesuit instution without any fee.
if my ancester wont converted to the christian then as a hindu my current status would be a Kothaanaar or Chithaal working in the fiels in the surthern india
