Ram jethmalani is not devil's advocate . he is the devil.
By defending hard core criminals, he tries to prove his superiority in his profession , without realising the pain it causes to the victims.

Why should we have lawyers and courts then? Aren't they wasting our time? We should let the popular media (with all its one-sided dramatic portrayals) decide whether a person is guilty or not. If this is the norm, then Sun TV will pronounce a death sentence on Jaya and Jaya TV will do the same for Karunanidhi.

Any person, however deemed evil, deserves a lawyer to argue his point in the court of law. This is in fact his/her right and it's not because judiciary want's to be compassionate to the accused but because *it won't be a fair trial otherwise*. Your sense of morality should only kick in after the accused have been proved guilty of the crime -- not before it. Imagine for a second that you got falsely accused for the murder of a child. What if all the lawyers in the country (in their own scale of morality) think that it's immoral to argue for a child-killer? What if the lawyers union bans any lawyer from pleading your case. You certainly don't stand a chance to prove your innocence..do you?

Just to clarify, I actually don't care about Manu Sharma here... I am worried about the subversion of normal judicial procedures and rights of the accused by sensationalistic media. If the media has the knack to take a 'commercial break' from the live coverage of the blood spattered victims of a terrorist bombing, why shouldn't Ram Jethmalani grab the money to.. after all.. do his job! I know what's moral and what's not. I hate it when the media tries to be a preacher.
